We all have an Inner critic, you know, that voice that tells you, you are not doing things right or you are not good enough or no one will listen to what you have to say! It is that voice that causes us to react rather than respond to situations in the way we would like to.

When we were growing up we were like sponges taking everything from our surroundings in – even if our parents were talking/criticising themselves we pick this up to thinking it is normal. We learn from parents, extended family members, authority figures i.e. priests, police and teachers.

The voices become a part of us, we have grown up with them so it becomes normal to hear I can’t do this or that or I am not good enough! They become part of our learned way and we stop questioning and take it as truth – no one else has taught us different!

The inner critic’s role is a protective one, but it gets out of control depending on our environment growing up. It will come across as a people pleaser, a pusher, a perfectionist, will make you feel guilty, it will attack your confidence and self-esteem.

Depending on how ingrained they are you may experience bodily reactions with them, your body may freeze in the moment when wanting to do something or get out a situation before even knowing the whole picture. It can put you on high alert when the situation is not dangerous, but the inner critic thinks it is!

‘Get out of here, it is not safe’ ‘he/she won’t like you’, don’t say anything they will laugh at you!’ ‘you will never get that promotion your work isn’t good enough!’

Who is saying or telling you these things? What if I told you, you have an Inner nurturer voice in you too. It’s a softer and gentler voice, one that can be hard to hear especially if we have a loud Inner critic voice. Unfortunately the inner nurturer doesn’t get enough attention in our lives, this is something we can change.

The inner nurturer provides warmth, motivation, support, security, a sense of assurance, is strong, caring and many other qualities. This voice can be strengthened and become the stronger and present voice in your life. It will be your biggest cheerleader, keep you safe and help you find satisfaction and connection. You will be able to see threats and resources clearly, create healthier boundaries, make life happen for you, feel a sense of inner satisfaction, and create healthier relationships with others and yourself. Enhance playfulness and curiosity in your life.

Your body will feel more relaxed in this state which means you will be more motivated and productive with your life.

‘I can do this’ ‘lets take one step at a time’ ‘that’s amazing’ ‘lets see what happens when we do this’ ‘I have done this before, I know what to do’ Sometimes knowing we have an alternative or
choice is all we need to grow!

What to Expect

In this 4 week course of working with Inner voices, you will learn how to become aware of both the Inner critical voice and the inner nurturing voice working with the medium of art, creative writing and mindfulness.

Rather than shutting the Inner critical voices out or pretending they are not there, learn to build a relationship between the critic and nurturer.

You will give them an image, bringing them into awareness. Once we are aware of a voice, we can observe and work with it, noticing how it affects our bodies and impacts our life and then respond to it though the inner nurturer.

It will have been heard, listened to, acknowledged, and responded to in a healthy way creating a feeling of inner balance and harmony.

The voice has got the love and care it’s needed and is no longer present.

No art background is required, stick men drawings and doodles are welcome!

It is a simple and effective technique I will be sharing with you which helps bring you from the mind into the heart and live the life you were born to.

A 45-minute 121 session is offered anytime during the 4 week course.
